154 Collective

Working with: Royal Exchange Theatre, ARC Stockton, and various theatres and arts venues throughout the UK

154 Collective was an international group of performers, painters, writers, photographers, animators, dancers and musicians creating theatre, art, publications and music. Here are some project highlights …

Wrestling the Walrus

“Hayley Youell, James Dey and Nicolas Lewis provide first-rate music that not only underscores the action on stage but completes it. Musically and lyrically it’s hopeful, joyful, upsetting, strong, and fragile.” - Sam Lowe, The Reviews Hub

A 154 Collective and Royal Exchange Theatre co-production – winner of the 2018 Hodgkiss Award.

Wrestling the Walrus was a play about companionship, connections and the millions of tiny memories that make up a person’s history.

Rabbit Girl & The Search For Wonder

“Something impossible has happened, something no one saw coming. So Rabbit Girl and her Dad have done what they do best - pulled on their boots, packed their tent and headed off into the wilderness. “

A family show with music, animation and puppetry, Rabbit Girl & The Search for Wonder toured extensively throughout England . Have a listen to the music I wrote for Rabbit Girl here and check out photos and the show trailer below.

Under the Bed

Under the Bed was a collaborative studio theatre show in which the narrative was told through live action, music, animation, and film. Hayley Youell, James Dey and I created the music for this show and performed it live at each venue.

Listen to some of the music here and check out the trailer below.

Cardboard Joe

“This show is part cartoon, part play that brings together animation, performance, music and loads of joining in! A fun-filled family adventure which toured venues across Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire.”

I created live music for these shows, partly precomposed and partly improvised.

The Musical Botanist

A marvellous and mesmerising market stall where you can make your own music just by touching the magical, musical plants.

I worked with Hayley Youell and Dan Mallaghan to create this musical market stall crammed full of singing and beatboxing plants. After it's creation for Bradford Festival, we did a couple of mini tours across the North of England.
